Our Story

Nuu-Muu began quite accidentally in the October of 2007, when founder Christine Nienstedt ran a half-marathon wearing an old polyester dress in a surprising floral print that earned her a lavish number of comments. She went on to discover that the world had a disturbing lack of whimsical exercise wear. She decided to remedy the situation and then nearly as quickly decided that she would need help. Enter Ashley Fullenwider, the first person Christine ever saw wearing a dress on a bike and just the sort of girl who could make mole hills out of mountains. Ashley’s husband Matt Krogh, the lucky soul who serves as the Vice President of Everything, was the next to sign on. At some point, the universe delivered Enid Wilson, the unassuming style fairy who actually knows how to sew AND how to prevent complete and utter pandemonium.

We can’t say for sure when Nuu-Muu gained critical mass…it is very hard to measure the bounty of appreciation, inspiration and loyalty that has been showered upon us. It is harder yet to quantify the passion and sincerity of the amazing range of women who have “joined the club,” so to speak. Moms and grandmas and sisters and doctors and yoga teachers and world-class athletes all share in the fun. They even send us Christmas cards! (Needless to say, we love this. We remain thankful beyond reason, curious (also beyond reason) and enormously dedicated to celebrating the strength and spirit of the women we encounter. We also still take breaks to go ride bikes in our dresses, occasionally for weeks at a time, and absolutely always in search of the perfect meal.
